About FAB Camps
Eligibility
If you care for a child that is 19 years old or younger on the first day of camp, and has suffered the loss of a parent or family member while serving in the British Armed Forces, then you may be eligible for a FAB Camp. Priority is given to families who fall into the above category, however military families who have suffered a bereavement outside of this criteria will be considered by the committee on a case-by-case basis.
Activities
All FAB Camp locations are different – offering different activities at each site. We try to incorporate a broad range of activities wherever we can. Further details may be found on our Camp Activities Page.
Support during your break
All families will be supported by one of our trained volunteers, and you will also have access to a bereavement counsellor throughout your stay. The FAB Camps are not intended as bereavement holidays, but we recognise that families may need some support during the week even if it is just someone friendly to talk to.
One of the optional sessions during the week is a fireside introduction also known as 'FAB Remembers'. This is where we invite families to join us to gather round a camp fire where we remember our loved ones and light a candle in their memory, usually followed by S'mores!
Contact prior and post camp via Scotty's Little Soldiers (SLS)
Prior to attending FAB, you must participate in a phone conversation with a member of SLS who will review your application and update any changes in circumstances prior to your last camp or application (for first time attendees). This call is not designed to be intrusive but gather more information that will allow us to support you to the best of our abilities for the duration of the camp. Following the camp you will also receive a call from SLS to gather feedback about your experience on FAB - this is all necessary to ensure we keep continuing to develop and support you as best as possible year on year.
Cost
We ask each family to pay a refundable deposit of £75 within 14 days of hearing that they have been successful for a camp. This deposit is necessary to secure your place, and will be repaid when you attend the camp. You will receive full board, accommodation and all programmed activities at no cost to you. You will need to provide your own transportation to and from each camp. If you need help with funding transportation, please let us know as we may also be able to support you with that. Of course, if we ever need to cancel a camp then deposits will be returned.

We also have Ambassadors, who are families who have attended camps, and are willing to talk to you about what you can expect on a FAB Camp.
